An Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Portable Low-Cost Device for the Rapid Detection of SARS-CoV-2

An artificial intelligence-assisted low-cost portable device for the rapid detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is presented here. This standalone temperature-controlled houses tubes designed conducting reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) assays. Moreover, utilises illuminated by LEDs, an in-built camera, and a small onboard computer with automated image acquisition processing algorithms. intelligent significantly reduces normal assay run time removes subjectivity associated operator interpretation colourimetric RT-LAMP results. To further improve this device’s usability, mobile app has been integrated into system to control LAMP environment visually display results connecting smartphone via Bluetooth. study was undertaken using ~5000 images produced from ~200 assays prototype device. Synthetic RNA panel positive negative SARS-CoV-2 patient samples were assayed study. State-of-the-art intelligence algorithms applied these analyse them select most efficient algorithm. The template matching algorithm extraction MobileNet CNN architecture classification provided 98.0% accuracy average 20 min confirm endpoint result. Two working points chosen based on best compromise between sensitivity specificity. high point value 99.12% specificity 70.8%, while at point, 96.05% 93.59%. Furthermore, provides cost-effective platform non-health professionals detect not only but also other pathogens in resource-limited laboratories, factories, airports, schools, universities, homes.
